The Ukrainian Red Cross launches a new integrated support project for veterans

The Ukrainian Red Cross has launched the Supporting Veterans and Conflict-Affected Communities in Ukraine: Integrated Community-Based Humanitarian Response for Sustainable Recovery and Social Cohesion project. As part of the project launch, a workshop was held in Kyiv, bringing together partners and stakeholders to jointly plan the work and align approaches to project implementation.

The project provides comprehensive support to veterans, their families, and communities. Its main areas of work include:

  • psychosocial support and protection for veterans and their family members;
  • rehabilitation and support for the physical recovery of veterans;
  • creating employment opportunities and supporting economic integration;
  • engaging veterans in the work of volunteer fire brigades and community life.

During the meeting, partners discussed the main areas of work in communities and agreed on approaches to project implementation. In particular, participants:

  • developed a shared vision of the project’s objectives, expected results, action plans, and implementation methodology;
  • agreed on the roles, coordination mechanisms, and responsibilities of all participants;
  • emphasised the importance of taking into account local knowledge and community needs and involving communities at all stages of the project;
  • discussed approaches to communication and ensuring the visibility of the project in line with the project’s requirements.

Particular attention was given to coordination among partners and next steps to ensure that support is comprehensive, accessible at the community level, and responsive to the real needs of veterans, their families, and local residents.

The project is implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross in partnership with the Danish Red Cross, the German Red Cross, and the Spanish Red Cross, with financial support from the European Union.

Together, we are working to ensure that veterans and their families receive the support they need, while communities have greater opportunities for recovery, development, and stronger social cohesion.
