IHL training held for local government representatives in Lviv region
An international humanitarian law (IHL) training was held in the Lviv region for heads of territorial communities and other representatives of local self-government authorities. During the training, participants explored the fundamental rules and principles of IHL, the protection of civilians and civilian objects, and responsibility for violations of international humanitarian law.
The practical part of the training focused on analysing real-life case studies relating to the protection of civilians and civilian objects, potential violations of IHL, and the legal responsibility arising from such violations.
The training was delivered by Khrystyna Duda, an international humanitarian law trainer and volunteer with the Ukrainian Red Cross. A separate session on the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, its mandate, and the protective emblems was delivered by Yehor Astapenko, a specialist from the International Humanitarian Law Unit at the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Training events such as these help promote knowledge of international humanitarian law and strengthen cooperation between the Ukrainian Red Cross and local self-government authorities.
