The Ukrainian Red Cross is responding to the aftermath of large-scale attacks in Kharkiv
For a second consecutive day, the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Kharkiv region has been working alongside other emergency services at the affected sites.
Volunteers are surveying the surrounding area, inspecting damaged buildings, and conducting door-to-door visits to identify people in need of assistance. They are providing first aid and psychological first aid to people experiencing acute stress reactions, assisting with the evacuation of residents from damaged buildings, and handing injured people over to emergency medical teams.
At one of the affected locations, the Ukrainian Red Cross has established an assistance point where people can receive psychological support, drink water, tea or coffee, and have a snack. Those affected are also receiving humanitarian assistance, including OSB boards, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, children’s bedding sets, drinking water, and other essential relief items.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, two people were killed and 23 injured, including four children, following this morning’s large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on Kharkiv. One of the strikes hit the roof of a five-storey residential building. Fires broke out in a residential neighbourhood and at a petrol station. Homes, administrative buildings, and vehicles were damaged.
