Sumy Region: Ukrainian Red Cross supports people affected by the latest Russian attacks
The emergency response team of the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, together with volunteers from the Sumy city-district branch, promptly provided assistance to residents of Sumy affected by the latest Russian strike.
On 3 July, humanitarian assistance for emergency temporary repairs to damaged homes was distributed at three designated locations. Residents received OSB boards and tarpaulins to temporarily cover damaged windows and doors.
More than 30 households also received practical assistance. Where residents were unable to carry out the repairs themselves and municipal services were overstretched, Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers carried out emergency repairs by boarding up damaged windows.
The assistance was provided with the support of the Danish Red Cross.
According to the Head of the Sumy City Military Administration, on 3 July Russian forces launched a large-scale air attack on Sumy using six guided aerial bombs. Apartment buildings, shops and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. Between 2 and 3 July, 26 villages across 15 territorial communities in the Sumy region also came under attack. The highest number of strikes was recorded in the Sumy, Shostka and Konotop districts, as well as in the city of Sumy. The attacks resulted in deaths and injuries, caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, and triggered large-scale fires.
