Over UAH 94.7 million in cash assistance provided by the Ukrainian Red Cross to vulnerable people in April–May

During April and May 2026, the Ukrainian Red Cross provided cash assistance to 7,896 people living in frontline and war-affected communities, with total support amounting to UAH 94,798,790.50.

Support was provided to:

  • people from the most socioeconomically vulnerable groups living in frontline communities within 50 km of the front line. This includes persons with Group I and Group II disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, single mothers and fathers, older people living alone, households consisting exclusively of older people, and large families;
  • evacuees who were forced to leave their homes due to active hostilities and shelling;
  • people affected by attacks, including those whose homes were damaged or destroyed, as well as individuals who suffered injury or the loss of a family member.

Cash assistance enables people to prioritise their most urgent needs and supports them in coping with the consequences of the war.

Support is provided to the most vulnerable people living in frontline areas or otherwise affected by the war, including residents of the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Chernihiv, Kherson, Sumy, and Odesa regions.

*Since 1 April 2026, the Ukrainian Red Cross has introduced a new approach to providing cash assistance to people affected by the war. The previous multipurpose cash assistance programme has been replaced by a priority-based cash assistance approach, allowing support to be tailored more closely to people’s needs and individual circumstances.

The programme is implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross with support from the United States, the Danish Red Cross, the Norwegian Red Cross, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
