Liubomyr Sakharuk, Volyn: “We are the ones you can rely on”

Liubomyr began volunteering with the Ukrainian Red Cross in 2015, when the emergency response team was established in Volyn. He started as deputy commander, and in 2022, during the country’s most challenging period, he stepped up to lead the team. “Thousands of people needed help at that time. Someone had to take responsibility for organising the work,” he explains.

For Liubomyr, being a commander is not just about giving orders — it’s about mutual support, trust, and teamwork. The role has taught him patience, quick decision-making, and how to work effectively with people in any circumstances.

To future colleagues, he advises: “Be prepared to work in difficult conditions, keep learning every day, and always remember — our main mission is to help people.”
