In Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian Red Cross Tracing Service has launched a series of events aimed at promoting child safety

The initiative’s goal is to raise children’s awareness of safe behaviour and teach them what to do if they get lost. The event, titled “How Not to Get Lost”, was held for pupils at a local school in an interactive format, combining discussion with a short educational presentation.

Fifty participants learned from the Zaporizhzhia Tracing Service team:

  • what to do if they become lost;
  • whom to ask for help;
  • whom they can trust in public places;
  • why it is important to know personal information;
  • how to behave in crowded areas.

Special attention was given to real-life scenarios — in shopping centres, on public transport, at railway stations, and during mass events. Children practised assessing situations, staying calm, and following a clear step-by-step plan. They also learned how to interact safely with strangers and whom to approach for help. After the presentation, participants reinforced their knowledge through discussion. Each child received themed colouring materials, “How Not to Get Lost”, to practise safety rules at home with their parents.

The Ukrainian Red Cross Tracing Service plans to carry out similar activities across different regions of Ukraine to foster a culture of safe behaviour among children and help prevent dangerous situations.
