Ukrainian Red Cross Hotline and MHPSS Team Held an Information Session for Lviv State University of Internal Affairs Students
In Lviv, the Ukrainian Red Cross Hotline team and the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) team held an introductory session for students of the Department of Practical Psychology at the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. The students learned about the work of Ukrainian Red Cross psychologists at different levels — from activities in regional branches and the hotline, to facilitating MHPSS events and projects.
Khrystyna Yasinska, Head of the Psychological Support Sector, spoke about the development of the MHPSS programme, the key challenges, and how the organisation continues to strengthen its psychological support system. Kateryna Kraiietska, a hotline operator, introduced the students to the specifics of the Information Centre’s work and how staff interact with people in need when direct personal contact is limited.
Mariia Nazarko, Head of the Information Centre, noted:
“It is important for us to share our experience with those who are just beginning their professional journey. The work of the Information Centre’s psychologists requires not only knowledge, but also empathy, resilience, and the ability to remain present and supportive even from a distance. Meetings like this help future specialists understand this work from the inside.”
It is important to note that the Ukrainian Red Cross operates a hotline where calls are answered not only by operators, but also by qualified psychologists. Specialists are on duty around the clock at 0 800 332 656, ready to listen, provide support, and help people manage difficult emotional states. Calls from Ukrainian mobile operators are free of charge.
