Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units have started operating in the Kharkiv region

Since September, residents of the Kharkiv region who require rehabilitation services have been able to receive assistance directly at home. This has become possible thanks to the launch of mobile rehabilitation units (MRU) in the region. Residents of the Lozova district were the first to receive support.

MRU specialists work with people who need to restore lost motor functions or improve their physical and emotional condition — including those recovering from injuries, wounds, illnesses, surgeries, limb loss, or joint replacement.

During each home visit, a physiotherapist and a physiotherapy assistant:

  • assess the person’s physical condition and design an individual rehabilitation plan;
  • carry out rehabilitation sessions based on the person’s recovery potential;
  • provide assistive devices such as walking frames, canes, crutches, and wheelchairs, where needed;
  • assess home conditions and give recommendations for improving accessibility and comfort.

Rehabilitation services can be accessed through referrals from a family doctor, other healthcare providers, medical facilities, social services, or volunteers from other Ukrainian Red Cross programmes. Individuals can also contact the Ukrainian Red Cross hotline directly 0 800 332 656.

The Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Programme in the Kharkiv region is implemented with the support of the Danish Red Cross. As of the end of 2025, Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units are operating in 13 regions across Ukraine.

We continue working to make rehabilitation services accessible — even in the most remote communities!
