Ukrainian Red Cross Assists Those Affected in Kaniv
Cherkasy region also came under attack last night. The emergency response team and staff from the Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross are providing on-site assistance in responding to the aftermath of the attack. Together with the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region and the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, they are supporting those affected.
A Ukrainian Red Cross assistance point has been set up at the scene, where volunteers are serving hot drinks, supplying water, and distributing snacks to emergency responders and local residents. People whose homes have been damaged are receiving OSB boards, plastic sheeting, blankets, and other essential materials from the Ukrainian Red Cross to carry out temporary repairs. Emergency response team volunteers are also ready to provide first aid and psychological first aid, if needed. A mobile health unit is on the ground offering medical consultations and helping stabilise people in medical distress.
According to the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, a school, a kindergarten, and at least seven apartment buildings in Kaniv have been damaged. Due to the destruction of critical infrastructure, parts of the community have been left without gas, water, or heating — basic necessities that are vital for surviving the winter. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has reported that ten people were injured in the large-scale Russian attack, including a 10-year-old boy.
Together with our partners, we are doing everything possible to help people recover from the attack as quickly as possible
