In Kyiv, volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams across the country participated in a three-day specialised training on patient transportation

This aspect is crucial to the work of emergency response teams, as volunteers transport individuals with serious injuries or critical conditions to medical facilities or back home after inpatient treatment. The safety and comfort of patients rely on the volunteers’ training, skills, and coordinated actions, making it essential to continually improve these abilities.

During the three-day training, volunteers had the opportunity to learn more about:

  • Organisation of work and handling transportation requests
  • Action protocols during patient transport
  • Vehicle equipment and documentation procedures
  • Providing psychosocial support during transportation
  • Action protocols in case of a patient’s condition worsening, transporting individuals with mental illnesses, and using specialised transport

The volunteers reinforced their theoretical knowledge through practical exercises. This training marked another important step in developing a systematic and high-quality approach to volunteer training for transportation.

The training was conducted with the support of the British Red Cross.
