In Kyiv, 354 people are receiving support from Ukrainian Red Cross social helpers as part of the Home-Based Care programme
These 354 individuals require assistance with household chores and hygiene due to their health conditions. They are unable to prepare meals, shop for groceries, or take a bath independently. They suffer from chronic illnesses or disabilities that restrict their daily activities. In addition to the challenges posed by their health, these people are often isolated: they may have relocated to safer areas to escape shelling, have family members serving in the military or living abroad, or find themselves alone in their old age.
Social helpers from the Ukrainian Red Cross provide essential support to vulnerable individuals, helping them meet their basic needs and ensure a decent standard of living. They purchase and deliver food, hygiene products, and medicines; change bed linen; assist with laundry and personal hygiene; clean the house; prepare meals; and, most importantly, offer companionship to help people feel valued and important.
In Kyiv, the Home-Based Care programme is carried out with the support of the British Red Cross, which also provided cash assistance to beneficiaries this winter. This allowed people to pay utility bills, purchase winter clothing, firewood, and cover other critical expenses.
