Replicas of explosive devices were delivered to the Kyiv region to support mine risk awareness efforts
Mine risk specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross work tirelessly every day to ensure that every child in Ukraine is aware of the dangers posed by explosive hazards and the rules for safe behaviour. With support from the Italian Red Cross and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), a monitoring visit was recently conducted at the Academic Lyceum No. 2 in Ukrainka.
The Kyiv region remains dangerous due to the presence of unexploded ordnance in forests, near rivers, in fields, and even at public transport stops. As a result, mine risk specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross hold informational sessions to provide children with the knowledge needed to stay safe. This information can be crucial in saving lives or preventing accidents if a suspicious object is encountered.
During the event, students learned:
- What explosive devices look like.
- How to act properly when they are found.
- Why it is important not to touch them and who to contact for help.
Mine risk specialists conduct awareness-raising sessions in schools across the region, using visual 3D models of explosive devices to help children better recognise potential threats.
During the monitoring visit, a representative from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation handed over a case containing replicas of explosive devices to the lyceum, ensuring that mine risk education continues. In return, the students of the lyceum presented the representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross with handmade dolls as tokens of goodwill.
We remind everyone: one wrong action can cost a life!
Staying alert and aware is the key to safety!
