The Ukrainian Red Cross joined the Third Forum of Nurses and Healthcare Workers in Kyiv
This year’s theme was ‘Nursing Reset 2025’. Over three days, participants focused on the development of nursing and discussed the strategic direction of the profession. Topics included the creation of an ecosystem to support nursing in Ukraine, the 2025–2027 Roadmap, and the role of nurses within healthcare systems in various countries — all of which were explored through group discussions and collaborative work.
As part of the event, the programme featured:
- Practical workshops and training sessions
- Lectures by Ukrainian and international experts
- Panel discussions, experience-sharing, and working groups
- Involvement of the professional community committed to the development of nursing
One of the speakers was Hanna Glushchenko, a leading specialist in nursing development cooperation at the Ukrainian Red Cross Health Department. She presented the nursing development programme within the framework of six key documents that will apply to all medical institutions in Ukraine and align with European standards.
“To take into account regional differences, disease specifics, the nuances of providing medical care, and workload, we held focus groups in seven regions of Ukraine, attended by more than 230 people, and conducted surveys with over 15,000 respondents. For us, this was a powerful indication that the nursing community is evolving and ready to play an active role in shaping its professional future. That is why we continue to organise activities and participate in partnership events to build a better future for nursing,” stated Hanna in her speech.
Other speakers included representatives from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, including the Centre for Nursing Development, as well as the Swiss Confederation, the Ukrainian-Swiss Medical Education Development Project, the Belgian development agency Enabel, the National Health Service of Ukraine, Primary Health Care Centres, Medical and Rehabilitation Centres, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
The event was organised by the Ukrainian-Swiss Medical Education Development Project and the BE-Relieve Ukraine Programme of the Belgian development agency Enabel, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The forum was an important occasion for identifying the next steps and resources required to advance nursing both nationally and internationally.
