In Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian Red Cross instructors trained employees of the Metinvest mining and processing plants in first aid skills
During the summer, 513 employees of the Metinvest mining and processing plants received first aid training from Ukrainian Red Cross instructors. In October, an additional 342 employees, who are members of the first aid teams at their plants, also completed the training.
During the training sessions, employees gained theoretical knowledge of the protocols for responding to life-threatening situations while focusing on the development of practical skills. Using special training manikins and simulators, they practised simulated scenarios that could occur at work, at home, or as a result of enemy shelling, ranging from heart attacks and loss of consciousness to serious injuries.
“Without repetition and periodic application, skills are forgotten, as is well known,” said Maksym Sovenko, chief specialist of the Occupational Safety and Health Directorate of the Metinvest mining and processing plant. “We must remember that in an emergency, a person may become confused and not recall what to do or the correct sequence of actions. This training will help develop action protocols, ensuring that the miners’ knowledge remains at a high level, so they can assist victims before medics arrive.”
