Assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross Team in the Cherkasy Region Following the Attack on 19 October 2024
The morning of 19 October 2024 was challenging for the people of the Cherkasy region. A combined attack on the area resulted in several UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) strikes and damage from falling debris.
In a significant strike on the Uman district, a woman died from her injuries after being taken to a medical facility in critical condition. Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save her. In the Cherkasy district, a vital infrastructure facility and a large warehouse belonging to a private enterprise were damaged. Additionally, fragments from the UAVs shattered the windows of a residential building and a children’s sports school in the private sector of Cherkasy.
The team from the Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross promptly arrived at the scene of the attacks and took immediate measures to stabilise the situation. Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team, alongside the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, provided first aid to the injured and psychological first aid to the victims. They also conducted search and rescue operations and supplied water, tea, and snacks to everyone involved in the emergency response. The volunteers provided materials to temporarily seal broken windows, doors, and other openings.
Construction materials were also supplied to repair the damage to the homes of those affected by the attacks. This assistance was part of the Winterisation, Shelter, and Relief projects and was provided with the support of the Canadian Red Cross.
We stand by those in need.
