Amid the sound of air raid alarms, another evacuation train from the Donetsk region arrived in Cherkasy

Over the past week, two evacuation trains have arrived in the Cherkasy region. Most recently, 58 people, including 11 children, left the area under fire. Emergency workers, community representatives, and teams from the Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross were there to greet them. They set up temporary rest areas at the railway station, where the evacuees were offered tea, coffee, hot soup, food, and basic necessities.

Emergency response teams from the Ukrainian Red Cross assisted older people and women with children as they disembarked from the train, also helping with their luggage. Specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Unit provided psychological first aid to those who had experienced distressing situations and were feeling confused and fearful of the unknown. They helped individuals adapt to their new circumstances. The specialists of the Relief Unit gathered information about people’s needs and discussed possibilities with community representatives to ensure that essential items, such as blankets, hygiene products, utensils, and clothing, were provided.

The next step involves the Relief specialists and the team from the Ukrainian Red Cross project “Reboot, New Opportunities” visiting specially equipped collective centres for internally displaced persons. They aim to help new residents integrate into the local community as much as possible. This includes addressing basic needs with humanitarian aid and offering assistance in upgrading skills or acquiring new professions for future self-employment.

We stand by those in need!
