The Ukrainian Red Cross continues to actively support mine action initiatives

Recently, the Humanitarian Access and Protection Department of the Ukrainian Red Cross participated in an event marking the 20th anniversary of the Global Training Centre for Mine Detection Dogs. This event was organised with the support of Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).

Over the past two years, the centre has provided six mine detection dogs to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine units. These four-legged specialists have been successfully deployed for mine clearance in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions, playing a vital role in ensuring the safety and preserving the lives of thousands of Ukrainians. Their efforts not only protect citizens but also significantly expedite the process of clearing areas of explosive ordnance.

The advancement of this initiative is crucial for Ukraine, which faces the daily threat of mines and other explosive devices. The Ukrainian Red Cross, in productive collaboration with mine action stakeholders and authorities, continues to focus on developing mine action in communities and providing information and awareness-raising activities on safer behaviours for various population groups. Joint efforts will help to reduce risks and offer effective support in the affected regions.
