In Kyiv, the Ukrainian Red Cross social assistants care for lonely individuals

Home-based care is a key area of activity for the Ukrainian Red Cross, aimed at supporting elderly people who live alone and people with disabilities.

Social assistants provide a range of services, including:

  • assisting with cleaning, cooking, changing linen, and maintaining hygiene;
  • purchasing food, medicines, and other necessities;
  • providing humanitarian aid;
  • accompanying beneficiaries to medical appointments and helping with social issues;
  • offering first aid when necessary;
  • delivering water and other essentials.

In addition to practical support, social assistants also build friendships with those who have been isolated for a long time, making communication and emotional support integral parts of their work.

Support from the Ukrainian Red Cross social assistants is available to:

  • lonely elderly individuals;
  • people whose relatives have been forced to leave their homes due to the war or are serving in the military;
  • lonely and relatively isolated internally displaced persons;
  • people with disabilities and their families.

We stand by those in need.
