Building community engagement capacity through the comprehensive training of 29 Ukrainian Red Cross trainers
On 6 August 2024, the Ukrainian Red Cross successfully completed an intensive 10-day training programme on community engagement and accountability for its trainers. The training aimed to establish a network of Ukrainian Red Cross specialists in these areas across 15 regions of Ukraine. Twenty-nine participants acquired the skills and knowledge to deliver specialised training programmes on community engagement and accountability within their regions. The Ukrainian Red Cross branches now have trained specialists who will support the implementation of the community engagement approach on the ground.
The training included interactive sessions, including lectures, discussions, and scenario-based exercises, delivered by facilitators from the Community Engagement and Accountability Unit, as well as from the Protection, Gender and Inclusion Unit (PGI), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Participants engaged in practical exercises, enhancing their facilitation skills through role-playing and simulations. Additionally, each participant developed an individual action plan to implement the principles of community engagement and accountability in their local communities.
Thanks to the financial support from partners, including the British Red Cross, the Danish Red Cross, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Community Engagement and Accountability Unit continues to develop local capacity, which is an essential step towards building resilient communities across Ukraine.
