In the Poltava region, the emergency response team worked at the scene following the attack on 26 August 2024

First responders from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were working at the scene of the attack. The Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team from the Poltava region also arrived promptly to assist. Volunteers provided drinking water to emergency workers and administered first aid to those affected.

It is important to note that the Ukrainian Red Cross is dedicated to preventing, mitigating, responding to, and addressing the consequences of emergencies. This includes enhancing the capacity of local communities to manage such situations. As an integral participant in the State Disaster Response System, the Ukrainian Red Cross operates within its specific area of competence and responsibility. Emergency response activities are conducted in accordance with the unified National and Regional Disaster Response Plan.

The Ukrainian Red Cross coordinates its efforts with state and local authorities and other organisations involved in emergency response. It maintains specially equipped emergency response teams whose primary functions include providing first aid and psychological first aid to victims; assisting in the evacuation of the population, including those with limited mobility; supporting emergency services in managing disaster aftermath; participating in rescue operations; organising camps for evacuees; identifying and addressing the most urgent needs of victims; delivering and distributing humanitarian aid, and more.
