In the Kherson region, 60 social assistants provide care for lonely people

Old age and reduced mobility often confine a person’s world to the size of their apartment or house, leading to feelings of social isolation and helplessness. Therefore, it is crucial to support lonely individuals not just by meeting their basic needs but also by addressing their need for communication.

For instance, 60 social assistants from the Kherson Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross provide support to 303 single individuals in the region. They assist with household chores such as cleaning, meal preparation, and changing bed linen; handle social matters like accompanying them to medical appointments, purchasing and delivering food, water, and other essentials; and helping with utility bills. Most importantly, they offer companionship and emotional support, which is vital for elderly people facing loneliness, especially during these challenging times.
