Working Meeting with Andrii Sybiha, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

Working Meeting with Andrii Sybiha, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

On 11 July, Andrii Sybiha, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, met with Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS).

During the meeting, the Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross presented the main areas of the organisation’s current activities and informed about the amount of assistance provided by the Society. Thus, since 24 February 2022, the URCS has been evacuating people from the ‘hot spots’; in particular, over 12.5 million people have already been supported. More than 29,000 stoves, 4,000 electric heaters, and 800 electric generators of various capacities have been delivered. With the assistance of the URCS, a shelter for pregnant women and mothers with babies, “Unbroken Mothers,” was established, and the seven-storey building of the UNBROKEN Rehabilitation Centre was reconstructed, where over 10,000 Ukrainians receive help every year. In this context, the effective work of the URCS in response to Russian aggression was noted, particularly its efforts to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and provide assistance to the most vulnerable populations.

The parties also discussed the development of special programmes aimed at facilitating the return of Ukrainians from abroad.

The First Deputy Minister expressed hope that the URCS will strengthen its coordination with Ukraine’s central and local authorities and international humanitarian organisations to prevent gaps and duplication of functions in the provision of humanitarian aid to affected communities.

Particular attention was given to the Ukrainian Red Cross Society’s involvement in restoring the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialised Hospital and the Centre for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
