The Hospital in Dnipro, Which Has Repeatedly Suffered from Rocket Attacks, Has Recently Had 160 Windows Replaced and Nearly 1200 Square Meters of New Roof Installed
This is not the first time that the Dnipro regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, in partnership with the Luxembourg Red Cross, has repaired the damage caused by rocket attacks on this medical facility.
“The facility suffered its most extensive damage at the end of 2022 when a missile hit one of the hospital buildings, shattering approximately 500 windows due to the blast wave. In the wards with broken windows, temperatures sometimes dropped to as low as +6 degrees Celsius. Immediately after the strike, the hospital management reached out to the Dnipro regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross for assistance,” explains Tamara Sorochan, the medical director of inpatient therapeutic care.
The medical worker adds that assistance arrived promptly, and they were particularly impressed with the quality of the work. The newly installed windows, equipped with insulation and mosquito nets, are moisture-resistant and very reliable.
Additionally, restoration work was carried out on the roofs of two medical facility buildings. We repaired the soft and slate roofs that were damaged by debris and blast waves caused by the missile strike.
The head of the Luxembourg Red Cross mission arrived in Dnipro to personally meet with the management and doctors of the medical institution. Together with representatives from the Dnipro regional branch and the head of the Eastern Interregional Office, Gulnamo Khudobakhshova visited the renovated hospital buildings.
The Head of Mission emphasised: “Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk oblast are strategic regions for the Luxembourg Red Cross and its back donor. Since 2022, the Luxembourg Red Cross, in partnership with the Ukrainian Red Cross, has rehabilitated 13 hospitals. This involved renovating windows, roofs, and conducting both complete and minor renovations in some hospitals. Furthermore, we supplied these hospitals with medical equipment and supplies. In 2024, the Luxembourg Red Cross and the Ukrainian Red Cross are currently renovating 125 individual houses, two hospitals, and the URCS local branch in Kryvyi Rih. Additionally, we are in discussions with the Ukrainian Red Cross regarding the 2025 plan, which will entail renovating medical facilities and other social infrastructures.”
