The Ukrainian Red Cross Provided Financial Assistance Totalling Over UAH 35 Million to 1,196 Families from Kyiv and Mykolaiv for Rehabilitation of Children and Adults

As part of the Cash for Rehabilitation Programme supported by the British Red Cross, the Ukrainian Red Cross provided financial assistance to patients undergoing rehabilitation at Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialised Hospital of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in Kyiv and several rehabilitation centres in Mykolaiv. Each patient received UAH 30,000 under this programme.

“This amount of money was determined based on the results of a preliminary survey among families whose children or relatives are undergoing or require physical rehabilitation in medical institutions across the country, including Okhmatdyt Hospital in Kyiv and medical facilities in Mykolaiv. Categories of injuries and diseases have also been defined, namely: rehabilitation after injuries sustained as a result of hostilities or explosive devices; rehabilitation services for congenital diseases; and rehabilitation for chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular, and other diseases,” stated Olena Skrypnikova, Head of the Innovative Financing Unit at the Ukrainian Red Cross.

Most of the children and adults who received financial assistance already have a disability status or are in the process of obtaining it. Additionally, the interviewed families emphasised the need for assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, orthoses for arms or legs, etc.
