In Cherkasy, Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross Held a Meeting with Iryna Vereshchuk, Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, to Discuss Support for Veterans and Assistance to IDPs

Today, during a visit to Cherkasy, Iryna Vereshchuk, Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Porkhun, Acting Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, visited a shelter for internally displaced persons and interacted with its residents. The apartments in the shelter were equipped with furniture, household appliances, and other essentials by the Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross in cooperation with the Canadian Red Cross under the Winterization Preparedness Strategy project. The building has 26 family-type units with separate sanitary facilities, showers, dining rooms, and bedrooms, accommodating approximately 60 people. Notably, this facility primarily houses families of educators, the majority of whom have relocated from the Kherson, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

They also visited a classroom where a group has been established to provide psychological relief for children who have arrived from the war zone, are adjusting to new living conditions, and are socialising in Cherkasy. Soon, a team of volunteers from the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Unit of the Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross will join these activities for children.

In addition, a meeting was held at the Cherkasy regional military administration to discuss veterans’ support issues, including veterans’ policies. In a lively dialogue with community leaders, heads of NGOs, and war veterans, they addressed the rehabilitation and social adaptation of soldiers returning from the front lines.
