Organising the Event “Ukraine’s Social Recovery”

In Berlin, the event “Ukraine’s Social Recovery – A Local Approach” took place at the Bundestag premises, specifically at the Jacob Kaiser House. The event was organised by the Ukrainian Red Cross, Caritas Ukraine, and Caritas-Spes Ukraine, with the support of the German Red Cross, as part of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2024).

During the panel discussions, representatives of civil society from Ukraine and Germany and representatives of NGOs, government, and businesses discussed approaches and opportunities to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.

″Hostilities, massive shelling – all that deepens the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Red Cross is doing everything possible to resolve it. We have already helped over 12.5 million Ukrainians and will continue to provide assistance for as long as it is needed. The support of the Ukrainian government and the international community is crucial for recognising the significant contribution of the Ukrainian civil society to Ukraine’s recovery efforts. It is essential that civil society actors play a key role in formulating relevant policies and reforms,″ stated Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

At the same time, Christoph Jöhnen, Head of International Cooperation at the German Red Cross, emphasised: ″The ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine has not only had a detrimental effect on buildings and critical infrastructure, but society as a whole.″

This event was also made possible thanks to the support of Niels Annen, member of the German Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
