The Story of Evacuation from the Sumy Region Near the Frontier

The last two residents of the village on the border of the Sumy region were evacuated by an emergency response team from the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross. Local residents Vira and Nina flatly refused to be evacuated to a safer settlement without their pets and domestic animals.

“So far, we haven’t caught any goats with baby does,” laughs Vitalii Kulyk, a volunteer.

“How can you leave them when they look at you with such eyes?” continues Volodymyr Moskalenko, a chief of the emergency response team.

It was their team that had the honourable task of evacuating not only two elderly women but also six goats and three dogs to a new home.
