Western Interregional Office of the Ukrainian Red Cross Opened in Lviv Today
The official opening of the Interregional Office of the Ukrainian Red Cross took place in Lviv, marking the establishment of an operational center for delivering humanitarian aid to the population of Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Rivne regions. The event was attended by representatives of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv Andrii Moskalenko, as well as representatives of the International Red Cross Movement and partner national societies operating in Ukraine.
“The goal of our office is to strengthen the capacity of regional branches. It is intended to serve as a center for exchanging experiences and resources, where solutions and ideas will emerge. I am grateful to everyone who contributed to this event; we have achieved such a significant result. I am especially grateful to the heads of regional branches, as they are the heart of our Movement, and our partners, whose support enables our development,” stated Volodymyr Havryliuk, Head of the Western Interregional Office.
“The Interregional Office in Lviv will become a center for consolidating humanitarian aid to the population of Ukraine. New programmes and protocols for addressing humanitarian challenges and today’s realities will be developed here,” emphasized Mykola Polishchuk, President of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
“Since the onset of the war, the Ukrainian Red Cross has been a reliable partner to the city of Lviv and Ukraine as a whole. Thousands of pregnant women came to the city at that time. Now we are asked how we managed to respond effectively to help those people, and we tell you – thanks to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Within a matter of months, a center for women with children and pregnant IDPs was established. To this day, people continue to live there. When we were asked about the first partner of the rehabilitation center aiding the wounded, it was, once again, the Ukrainian Red Cross. Looking ahead, we are planning yet another large-scale joint project, this time focused on establishing another rehabilitation center to save the lives of Ukrainians. Thank you for your cooperation,” emphasized Andrii Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Lviv has become a refuge for many people. It offered the help and security people needed. Two years ago, it was here in Lviv that some of the largest projects of the Ukrainian Red Cross were launched. It is extremely symbolic for us that today we are opening the Western Interregional Office in Lviv. I extend my gratitude to the entire team and our partners for the work done,” stated Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
