The Ukrainian Red Cross Instructors Teach First Aid in Kharkiv
In a city where there are daily explosions and the threat of shelling and rocket attacks, everyone should possess first aid skills. After all, nobody knows when or where an emergency might occur, but the lives of victims often depend on the abilities of bystanders to respond effectively.
Instructors from the Kharkiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross recently conducted a six-hour training session for women and girls at Zatyshno Space, a branch of the East SOS Charitable Foundation. During the training, participants learned vital first aid techniques and algorithms, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to use a defibrillator, and how to transport a patient correctly to avoid further injuries. Additionally, the instructors explained how to deal with various emergencies such as burns, heart pain, stroke, seizures, fainting, and animal bites.
“Thank you very much for the training; the time flew by. I gained not only theoretical but also practical knowledge that I can now use, if necessary, to save my own life and the life of another person″, said one of the participants.
Zatyshno Space is a centre that aims to protect and provide free psychological, legal, and social assistance to female visitors who have suffered as a result of the war or are in difficult life circumstances. It also works to counteract gender-based violence. The project is implemented by the East SOS Charitable Foundation in cooperation with the international humanitarian organisation CARE, with the support of the Government of Canada.
