The First Medical Union of Lviv Holds Training for Nurses

At the First Medical Unit of Lviv, the Ukrainian Red Cross, in collaboration with the Canadian Red Cross, is dedicated to enhancing the standards and quality of nursing.

In their daily work, and especially during the war, it is extremely important to communicate properly with patients and their families. Nurses also need to explain the stages of procedures and manipulations, considering the emotional state of the patients.

“Nurses are the ones who have the most contact with patients during their treatment at the hospital. Therefore, we aim to find the right words, provide support, and simultaneously carry out all necessary medical procedures with maximum comfort for the patient. We are living in a very difficult time, but still, we are making every effort to ensure that both our defenders and civilians feel our care,” explains Lidiia Holianska, the chief nurse of the First Medical Unit of Lviv.

Hence, the training will also include specific techniques for working with patients, such as administering injections, inserting peripheral catheters, and collecting blood using the vacuum method, to ensure that each process is as safe and high-quality as possible.

The training takes place in a simulation centre, where nurses can learn practical skills in a safe and supervised environment. This approach allows us to prepare specialists for various situations they may encounter in real clinical practice.
