Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross Visited Sweden on a Diplomatic Mission

Led by the Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the delegation met with 13 members of the Swedish Parliament who are actively engaged with the Ukrainian issue. During the meetings, they discussed the needs of the Ukrainian population, focusing on humanitarian aid provision and Ukraine’s restoration.

The visit comprised several strategic sessions on mental health and psychosocial support, emergency response, and overall long-term assistance to Ukraine during the war. Meetings with representatives of the Swedish Red Cross entailed discussions on opportunities and challenges for partner national societies, as well as a bilateral review of ongoing activities and plans for further cooperation.

In addition, representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross met with Carl Hartzell, Head of the Department for Multilateral Governance and Humanitarian Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss further humanitarian assistance, the importance of adhering to the localisation approach, and the need for flexibility and standardisation of conditions for receiving humanitarian aid. During the meeting, Mr Hartzell emphasised the importance of ongoing assistance in Ukraine’s recovery from the war and further long-term support for the country.

On April 18, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, extending until 2030. This milestone agreement sets a precedent for long-term support and reflects the deepened level of cooperation between the Ukrainian and Swedish Red Crosses.
