The Lithuania Red Cross was among the first to support the Ukrainian Red Cross and Ukrainians after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion

The Ukrainian Red Cross joined the relief efforts in the first hours after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP in Kherson Oblast, evacuating the population and providing humanitarian aid on-site.

The prompt support of partner national societies made the assistance efficient and timely. The Lithuanian Red Cross was one of the first to respond, contributing EUR 1 million to help all those affected by the flooding.

Thanks to this financial support, we purchased two “Bogun” multipurpose all-terrain vehicles and equipped them with special trailers. We also purchased 1500 pontoons for rescue operations, 20 sets of pumps and components for water pumping, more than 850 units of waders, 250 helmets, and 250 bulletproof vests.

In addition to the rescue and evacuation equipment, thanks to the support of the Lithuanian Red Cross, we provided:

  • 6,000 household cleaning kits
    10,000 hygiene kits
over 200 water tanks with 1,000 liters capacity
more than 135,000 bottles of drinking water
