The Ukrainian Red Cross has provided the first water treatment plant to the community in the Dnipro region

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society has launched the Access to Safe Water project and installed the first water treatment plant in the Myrove community in the Dnipro region. From now on, purified water will be supplied to the residents of the Vyvodove district, which includes seven villages.

A plant of this capacity can mechanically treat and disinfect approximately 1,000 litres of water every hour, providing water for more than 6,000 people per day.

“Today, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, in coordination with the state, is working to support communities affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. We plan to set up similar water treatment plants in several more communities where the need is greatest,” emphasised the Director General of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.

This is crucial assistance for the Myrove community, as the Kakhovka reservoir had been the only water source for nearby towns and villages for many years. Now, it is almost dry. People are forced to buy bottled water, transport it from other regions, or rely on aid from philanthropists.

The pilot water treatment plant was provided with the support of the Italian Red Cross. Additionally, over the past week, specialists and volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society have undergone specialized training in the maintenance of such treatment plants to provide communities with trained operators who will ensure the effective operation of the plants on site.
