Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units to begin operating in Kirovohrad region
The Kirovohrad regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross is launching the Physical Rehabilitation and Social Adaptation project to ensure that people who cannot access rehabilitation services in their local communities can receive free support and participate more actively in community life.
The initiative will provide physical rehabilitation and social adaptation services to people who need support with recovery following injuries, amputations, serious trauma, illnesses or other conditions affecting their mobility and independence in everyday life.
Each mobile rehabilitation unit will consist of a physical therapist and a physical therapist assistant. They will provide professional consultations and rehabilitation support in people’s homes, including in remote communities across the region.
The specialists will help people regain abilities they have lost and maintain their current level of functioning, enabling them to lead as independent a daily life as possible. Where a need for assistive devices is identified, the project teams will provide these to community residents.
In addition to working individually with community residents, the teams will organise training sessions, workshops and awareness-raising activities to improve understanding of physical rehabilitation, the use of assistive devices and available recovery options. Particular attention will be paid to training healthcare and social care professionals, students, family members and carers, volunteers, and people who need rehabilitation services.
The project is being implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross in partnership with the Danish Red Cross, the German Red Cross and the Spanish Red Cross, with financial support from the European Union.
