Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross visited Sweden to exchange experience and learn about approaches to developing local branches and Community Centers
During the visit, the delegation met with colleagues at the Swedish Red Cross headquarters in Stockholm and visited local branches in Södertälje, Gothenburg and Vänersborg. They also visited Restad Gård, where the Swedish Red Cross supports people awaiting a decision on their right to remain in Sweden.
The Ukrainian Red Cross specialists explored the Swedish model of local branch operations, including key areas of activity, cooperation with local authorities, approaches to assessing community needs and the provision of social counselling.
In turn, the Ukrainian Red Cross representatives shared their practical experience, particularly in emergency response and supporting people affected by emergencies.
The delegation also learned about the Swedish Red Cross’s Red Cross Houses — spaces that combine basic assistance with counselling, language practice, social activities and opportunities for people to connect.
Other topics included working with migrants, fundraising, partnerships with local authorities and civil society organisations, and identifying community needs and mapping available services.
Exchanging experience creates opportunities not only to learn from successful practices but also to share our own expertise.
The visit marked an important step towards strengthening professional cooperation between the two National Societies, sharing practical solutions and exploring new opportunities to develop local branches and Community Centers.
