The Ukrainian Red Cross responded to the aftermath of Russian attacks in Sumy and Odesa

Emergency response teams of the Ukrainian Red Cross in the Sumy and Odesa regions worked alongside other emergency services at sites affected by the attacks.

In Sumy, volunteers conducted door-to-door checks of a damaged residential building to identify affected residents and provide prompt assistance. They provided first aid and psychological first aid to those affected, and transported one injured person to the hospital.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, a Russian airstrike hit a nine-storey residential building in Sumy. Two people were killed and eight were injured, including two children. Emergency responders rescued four people from the rubble, including a seven-year-old boy, and handed them over to medical teams.

In Odesa, the team worked alongside other emergency services throughout yesterday and into the night. Volunteers surveyed the affected areas to identify people in need of assistance, provided first aid to injured individuals, and delivered psychological first aid to those experiencing acute stress reactions.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Russian forces carried out repeated strikes throughout the day and night on an 11-storey administrative building in the Odesa region. At the time of the first strike, people were in a shelter, which helped save their lives. Ten people were injured in the attacks, including two emergency responders who were wounded during a repeated strike. A fire broke out in the administrative building following a repeated strike overnight and was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Another fire broke out in a two-storey building belonging to an educational institution. In the Odesa district, the roofs, facade, and glazing of two residential buildings, as well as a passenger car and a minibus, were damaged. No further fires were reported.
