Support in Difficult Times: Cash Assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross

67-year-old Anastasiia lives with her husband, who has a disability, in a frontline community in the Mykolaiv region. Living close to the frontline means that the family has to focus not only on their safety but also on meeting their everyday needs.

“We spend a lot of our money on treatment. This assistance was very important for us,” says Anastasiia.

The Ukrainian Red Cross Unified Cash Transfers programme, implemented with U.S. support, is designed to support the most vulnerable people living in frontline communities. They include older people, people with disabilities, single parents, large families, and internally displaced people.

The assistance helps families cover essential everyday expenses, including buying medicines and food and paying for housing and utilities. For people living in frontline communities who face the consequences of the war, this support can provide an important sense of stability.
