The Ukrainian Red Cross held a meeting for families of missing persons in Mykolaiv
On 19–20 August 2026, an information meeting for families of missing persons was held in Mykolaiv. The event brought together 56 families and was organised by specialists from the Restoring Family Links team of the Mykolaiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, and the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances.
During the meeting, families received information on mechanisms for searching for missing persons and procedures for collecting and submitting information that could help determine the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones.
A representative of the Regional Consultation Centre of the Coordination Headquarters explained the specific aspects of searching for missing military personnel, the role of the personal account, and the procedure for changing registration categories. The participants also discussed mechanisms and procedures for the return of the remains of deceased service members.
An important part of the meeting focused on family safety. Participants were warned about common cases of fraud, including demands for money, as well as attempts by hostile intelligence services to recruit family members. Specialists provided recommendations on how to respond if such situations arise.
Representatives of the Mykolaiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross also informed families about available support. In particular, specialists from the Reboot programme presented opportunities for professional development, retraining, and support for developing or maintaining a business, while representatives of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) team explained the psychosocial support services available.
Participants were also introduced to the Supporting the Reintegration of Veterans in Ukraine programme, which aims to expand entrepreneurship opportunities for veterans and their families.
Following the joint session, families had the opportunity to receive individual legal and procedural consultations from specialists, ask additional questions, and update their contact details.
