The Ukrainian Red Cross hands over 69 sets of firefighting equipment to volunteer fire brigades in the Chernihiv region

The Ukrainian Red Cross has handed over 69 sets of emergency response equipment to volunteer fire brigades from 16 territorial communities across the Chernihiv region. The equipment was provided with U.S. support to strengthen communities’ preparedness and capacity to respond to emergencies.

Each set contains all the essential equipment needed for volunteer fire brigades to respond effectively to emergencies, including a portable fire pump, a fire hose with nozzle, a set of radios, a firefighting torch, protective clothing, helmets, gloves, ten fire extinguishers, fire shovels, fire blankets, and a firefighting tool board equipped with a fire hook, crowbar, shovel, axe, and buckets.

This equipment will help volunteer firefighters respond to fires and other emergencies more quickly and effectively, when every minute counts and timely action is critical to saving lives, protecting property, and ensuring community safety.

The handover ceremony was attended by representatives of the Chernihiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Chernihiv Region, and the participating territorial communities.

Strengthening the capacity of volunteer fire brigades is an important part of developing local emergency response systems and enhancing communities’ resilience to emergencies.
