18 projects selected under the Ukrainian Red Cross grant programme for frontline communities
The Ukrainian Red Cross has completed the competitive selection process for its Group Cash Transfer Programme for Strengthening the Resilience of Frontline Communities, implemented with U.S. support under the Assistance for National Crisis Response, Humanitarian Operations, and Resilience (ANCHOR-UA) project.
A total of 51 applications were submitted by local self-government authorities, municipal enterprises, public institutions and other public entities from communities in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. Following the evaluation process, the selection committee approved 18 projects, which will proceed to the next stage of programme implementation.
The programme aims to support communities affected by the war that continue to provide essential services and meet the basic needs of residents amid ongoing challenges. Under the programme, eligible local self-government authorities, municipal enterprises, public institutions and other public entities from selected communities in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions will receive grant support ranging from UAH 500,000 to UAH 2 million to implement priority initiatives focused on emergency response, restoring essential services and strengthening community resilience.
Following the competitive selection process, the following projects have advanced to the next stage:
Mykolaiv Region
- Vesniane Territorial Community — construction of a main water pipeline and technical modernisation of a water supply facility, including the installation of a water tower;
- Horokhivka Territorial Community — restoration of water supply;
- Kutsurub Territorial Community — modernisation of water supply systems to ensure access to drinking water for residents and restore water supply in frontline communities;
- Mishkovo-Pohorilove Territorial Community — energy-independent preschool education facilities “Light in the Window”;
- Nechaiane Territorial Community — construction of a 12 kW solar power plant to provide electricity for a water intake well;
- Shyroke Territorial Community — technical support for the restoration and repair of water supply networks.
Kharkiv Region
- Bohodukhiv Territorial Community — procurement and installation of an energy storage system (ESS) to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for community residents;
- Derhachi Territorial Community — uninterrupted CT diagnostic services;
- Pechenihy Territorial Community — portable charging stations for backup power supply to solid-fuel boiler pumps;
- Savyntsi Territorial Community — installation of solar panels at a water intake well.
Chernihiv Region
- Horodnia Territorial Community — strengthening the energy resilience of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise “Horodnia City Hospital” to ensure the continuous provision of medical services;
- Korop Territorial Community — installation of a solar power plant at a water supply facility (well);
- Novhorod-Siverskyi Territorial Community — major repair of the drainage and sewerage system;
- Ponornytsia Territorial Community — partial restoration of the roof of Avdiivka Lyceum;
- Ripky Territorial Community — water supply through renewable energy solutions;
- Semenivka Territorial Community — reconstruction of the heating system;
- Sosnytsia Territorial Community — strengthening the energy resilience of a sewage pumping station;
- Kholmy Territorial Community — ensuring the energy resilience of Snovsk Lyceum No. 3 as a critical social infrastructure facility of the community.
The implementation of these initiatives will contribute to strengthening communities’ preparedness and capacity to respond to emergencies, reinforcing critical infrastructure, improving access to essential services and creating safer living conditions for residents.
As part of the application process, applicants were required to conduct a community needs assessment and prepare a project proposal, including an implementation plan, a budget, a plan for the use of funds, and the required supporting documents. The selection process was based on the submitted applications and their compliance with the programme requirements.
The submitted projects demonstrate the strong commitment of local self-government authorities and municipal enterprises to strengthening the resilience of their communities amid the ongoing war.
