Developing Young Leaders for Stronger Volunteer Teams
This week, the first Ukrainian Red Cross Youth Leadership Academy took place in the Lviv region.
Over the course of five days, 15 young volunteers from across Ukraine developed their leadership skills, learned how to build trust within teams, communicate effectively, and identify solutions for strengthening volunteer initiatives.
What makes the Academy unique is that it was created by young Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers themselves. A few years ago, they took part in a Youth Leadership Academy in Denmark. Today, they are using that experience to create new opportunities for other volunteers in Ukraine.
Working with colleagues from Danish Red Cross Youth and with the support of the Danish Red Cross, the team adapted international best practices to the Ukrainian context and developed a programme that helps young people strengthen their leadership skills and build stronger volunteer teams.
During the Academy, participants focused on three key areas:
- Personal leadership
- Teamwork
- The role of young people in the development of the Ukrainian Red Cross
The real impact, however, begins after the training ends.
Returning to their local branches, participants will put their new knowledge, practical tools, and ideas into action to strengthen volunteer teams, launch new initiatives, and support people in their communities.
