Ukrainian Red Cross Receives International Award for Innovation in First Aid

The Ukrainian Red Cross was named the winner of the “Innovation in First Aid and Resuscitation” category in the European regional qualifiers for the 2026 First Aid World Cup, organised by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

A total of 162 teams from 85 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies took part in the qualifying round. The Ukrainian Red Cross was recognised for its innovative solutions, modern approaches to first aid training, effective emergency response strategies, and contribution to community resilience.

Among the initiatives recognised for their innovative approach was the Ukrainian Red Cross’s evidence-based first aid training methodology for people with physical disabilities. The methodology adapts first aid techniques to the needs of people with physical disabilities and helps foster a more inclusive society in which everyone has the opportunity to acquire life-saving skills.

The Ukrainian Red Cross has also continued to advance inclusive education. In 2023, it introduced the first first aid manual in Braille, followed in 2024 by an adapted version for children. These resources have made first aid education more accessible for people with visual impairments.

The winners will now go on to compete in the Global Final of the First Aid World Cup in Dubai, where they will showcase their work to an international audience of humanitarian leaders, donors and partners.

This international recognition is a testament to the dedication of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s instructors, volunteers and staff, who are advancing modern, inclusive approaches to first aid training, strengthening a culture of emergency preparedness, and making life-saving knowledge accessible to everyone.
