Last week, the Ukrainian Red Cross National Volunteer Camp brought together 85 volunteers from across Ukraine

Although they came from different backgrounds, professions and age groups, all participants shared a common goal: to support people and strengthen volunteering in their communities.

Over the course of five days, volunteers got to know one another, exchanged experiences, built new connections and explored ways to make the volunteer community even stronger and more united. Participants developed mechanisms for collaboration and coordination, discussed the development of volunteering, took part in sessions on humanistic education, improved their time management skills, and learned about approaches to preventing and responding to violence.

Representatives of the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, ADRA Ukraine Charitable Foundation, the Kyiv City Youth Council and the Union of Large Families also contributed to the programme by delivering sessions and sharing their expertise and practical experience with participants.

The new knowledge, practical tools and ideas gained during the camp will help volunteers collaborate more effectively, respond to challenges and continue supporting people in their communities.

Yet the most valuable thing participants take away from gatherings like this is a sense of belonging to a larger team — a team that supports people through their most difficult moments every day, strengthens communities and demonstrates through its actions that helping begins with people who are willing to take action.

Gatherings like these strengthen the Ukrainian Red Cross volunteer community. When people with shared values and a common commitment to helping come together, they learn from one another’s experiences, and knowledge is transformed into meaningful change for thousands of people across Ukraine.
