Ukrainian Red Cross Shares Experience in Emergency Response During Wartime at International Workshop
As part of ongoing cooperation with the French Red Cross and joint initiatives with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross took part in the PIROI workshop (Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform), dedicated to preparedness and emergency response in countries of the south-western Indian Ocean region. The event also brought together representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Red Cross Societies of Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and Tanzania, the Comoros Red Crescent, as well as the French Red Cross.
During the workshop, the Ukrainian Red Cross team shared the organisation’s experience of operating in the context of full-scale war. Participants were introduced to the organisation’s key areas of work, approaches to responding to humanitarian challenges, cooperation with public authorities — particularly in the field of civil protection — community preparedness for emergencies, and the development of volunteer networks.
Particular attention was given to building an effective supply chain. Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross shared their experience in warehouse management, the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and the adaptation of logistics processes to wartime conditions and large-scale emergencies.
The experience shared attracted significant interest among participants and served as a basis for further exchange of practical expertise, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing the capacity of National Societies to respond effectively to today’s humanitarian challenges.
Participation in such international events helps share Ukraine’s humanitarian response experience, foster professional dialogue, and strengthen cooperation within the Movement. At the same time, the workshop provided an important platform for expanding partnerships with National Societies in the Indian Ocean region, discussing opportunities for joint humanitarian initiatives, and exchanging experience in emergency preparedness and response.
