More and more people are being forced to leave their homes, packing their entire lives into a few suitcases and searching for any opportunity to escape areas affected by fighting.

The Ukrainian Red Cross helps people escape danger and reach safety.

For older people with limited mobility and persons with disabilities, Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams are often their only chance of being evacuated.

Every evacuation is a dangerous mission that can take many hours and carries a constant risk of shelling and attacks.

“The front line is getting closer and closer. We hoped it wouldn’t reach us, but it did. We have to leave. Every night, Shahed drones fly overhead, and during the day drones fill the sky. We hide and run for cover. I just want to return home, but with the front line so close, I am losing hope,” said Liudmyla, whom we evacuated from the Dnipro region.

The Ukrainian Red Cross does more than help people escape danger. We remain by their side every step of the way: transporting evacuees to transit centres, supporting evacuation trains, and welcoming people in their new communities. We do everything we can to help people feel safe, navigate their next steps, and access the support they need throughout their journey.
