Bringing medical care where it is needed most: how Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units operate in the Zaporizhzhia region
Currently, five mobile health units are operating in Zaporizhzhia city and the surrounding region. These units continue to provide assistance in the most remote areas where access to healthcare services is limited or unavailable, ensuring timely medical support for elderly people and families in need.
Each unit consists of a family doctor, a nurse, and a driver. During field visits, they provide comprehensive healthcare services, including:
- consultations, medical examinations, and primary healthcare services
- measurement of blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels
- provision of essential medicines free of charge to stabilise patients’ conditions
- referrals to specialist doctors when further examination is required
- transportation to the nearest medical facility in critical cases
The activities of the Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units in the Zaporizhzhia region are implemented thanks to the reliable support of the Austrian Red Cross and Neighbour in Need (NACHBAR IN NOT) foundation.
