“Glossary of International Humanitarian Law” presented with the support of the Ukrainian Red Cross
With the support of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine presented the “Glossary of International Humanitarian Law” (IHL), a reference guide containing 123 key IHL terms and their definitions in Ukrainian, English, French, and German.
The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Red Cross, state institutions, educational institutions, and civil society organisations.
Opening remarks were delivered by Kyrylo Hankevych, Deputy Director of the Legal Support Department of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, and Olena Stokoz, Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
“The IHL Glossary is not just a reference guide, but a tool that helps ensure precision where misunderstandings may come at a high cost,” said Olena Stokoz.
The event also included moderated discussions on the current state of translating IHL sources into Ukrainian, as well as existing challenges and possible solutions. Participants also discussed IHL terminology dictionaries developed with the support of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
As part of its long-standing cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine in the field of international humanitarian law, the Ukrainian Red Cross continues to support initiatives aimed at strengthening knowledge and the practical application of IHL in Ukraine.
