A step towards better health: the Ukrainian Red Cross, together with CheckEye, launches screening for diabetes complications
Diabetes is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in Ukraine. More than one million people have an official diagnosis, while many others are unaware of their risk — particularly in the case of Type 2 diabetes, which develops gradually and is often linked to lifestyle factors.
Early detection of changes helps prevent complications and enables people to take care of their health. Therefore, in Kyiv, staff members of the Ukrainian Red Cross will undergo screening over the course of three days to determine the presence of diabetes-related complications, including Diabetic retinopathy, or a predisposition to diabetes. The procedure takes only five minutes, is painless and allows participants to return to work immediately afterwards. This will help identify potential risks in time and, if necessary, seek advice from medical specialists. The screening service will later also be piloted for residents of several regions of Ukraine.
CheckEye is an innovative platform based on artificial intelligence that makes large-scale screening for chronic diseases fast and accessible. The initiative is supported by the Health and Prevention programme and the Innovative Financing Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross, enabling high-quality screening for the population to be organised together with partners.
Regular health checks are a responsible step towards a safer future.
