In the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units strengthen the capacity of social care assistants

A training session on the use of assistive rehabilitation devices was held in Lozova for social care assistants working within the Home-Based Care programme of the Lozova district branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross. The training was organised by staff from the Physical Rehabilitation and Social Adaptation programme.

The aim of the session was to strengthen professional capacity and refresh skills in the use of modern assistive devices. Participants were introduced to different types of equipment, principles of appropriate selection and safe use, and had the opportunity to practise their skills.

The training was joined by a volunteer from the United States, Matthew Hellaby, who shared his experience during the practical session. As a volunteer with the Ukrainian Red Cross, Matthew has previously worked in Dnipro, Odesa, Lviv and Kyiv.

Social care assistants support older people living alone and persons with disabilities. The training marked an important step in strengthening the team’s capacity to deliver rehabilitation services and provide essential support to those in need.
